# Real-time updating and alerts

> What updates by itself in the chat without reloading the page, how the alerts appear at the top right, the «the system is under load» alert and what to do when the connection drops.

The chat has no «Aggiorna» (Refresh) button: as long as the page is open it stays **connected to the server** and keeps itself up to date. If something seems stuck, reload the browser page (F5).

## What updates by itself

- **New messages.** When a message arrives, or a colleague sends one from another computer, the list and the open conversation update after about **0.3 seconds** ([The conversation list](https://narciso.io/en/docs/elenco-conversazioni/), [Reading messages](https://narciso.io/en/docs/leggere-messaggi/)).
- **The ticks** on sent messages: Inviato (Sent), Consegnato (Delivered), Letto (Read), depending on the channel ([Reading messages](https://narciso.io/en/docs/leggere-messaggi/)).
- **«Sta scrivendo...»** (Typing...), only for Personal WhatsApp.
- **Reactions** from the contact (Instagram, Facebook, Business WhatsApp) and **edits and deletions** of their messages on Personal WhatsApp.
- The **sending status**: a message that fails goes by itself to the «non inviato» (not sent) status and a red alert appears with the reason (for example «Invio del messaggio non riuscito» (Sending the message failed), 5 seconds).
- The **progress of documents** being converted and their preview when it is ready ([Attachment viewer](https://narciso.io/en/docs/allegati/)).
- The **red number of unread messages**, on the Chat icon in the side menu and in the list: it also updates when you open a conversation ([The conversation list](https://narciso.io/en/docs/elenco-conversazioni/), [The chat in the side menu](https://narciso.io/en/docs/minichat/)).
- The **amber dot** on the **Collegamenti** (Connections) button at the top, when a social account is disconnected by Meta, for example after a password change: when you hover over it you read «Un account Social è stato disconnesso da Meta per motivi di sicurezza (es. cambio password). Procedi alla riconnessione manuale.» (A Social account has been disconnected by Meta for security reasons (e.g. password change). Reconnect manually.) - **New attachments** that arrive while the viewer is open appear among the thumbnails.

> **Note.** Alerts for new messages are seen **only inside Narciso**: no sounds and no browser notifications. If the tab is in the background no alert arrives ([Alerts and sounds](https://narciso.io/en/docs/avvisi-e-suoni/)).

## The alerts at the top right

Outcomes and errors appear as white cards at the **top right**, above everything else, with a coloured border and icon:

| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Green** | Successful |
| **Red** | Error |
| **Amber** | Warning |
| **Light blue** | Information |

- **Up to five together** can appear, one below the other: if a sixth arrives, the oldest disappears.
- They close with the **×**, or by themselves after a few seconds (from 3 to 12, depending on the alert: longer texts stay longer).
- Some have a **button**, for example **Riconnetti →** (Reconnect →) when you write on a disconnected channel ([New message](https://narciso.io/en/docs/nuovo-messaggio/)).
- Two alerts of the same kind do not pile up: the new one takes the place of the old one.

In some error cases (for example when unlinking a client, [Linking a conversation to a client or a supplier](https://narciso.io/en/docs/collegare-a-un-cliente/)) a small **browser** window with an OK button appears instead, in the centre of the screen: it stays until you press OK.

### «Sistema momentaneamente congestionato»

If the server replies that it is too busy, the red alert **«Sistema momentaneamente congestionato. Riprova tra qualche minuto.»** (System temporarily congested. Try again in a few minutes.) appears for 6 seconds and, for 30 seconds, the **Invia** (Send) button of the email editor turns grey. Wait a few minutes before trying again, without resending the same message several times ([Writing and sending a message](https://narciso.io/en/docs/scrivere-messaggi/)).

## «Il sistema è sotto carico»

When the queued work on the server gets clogged, Narciso reports it to **all connected users, on any page**, with an **amber** alert:

> «Il sistema è sotto carico: se puoi, ferma ciò che stai facendo per qualche minuto o procedi più lentamente. Riduci uso della chat.» (The system is under load: if you can, stop what you are doing for a few minutes or proceed more slowly. Reduce chat use.)

- The alert stays visible for about **70 seconds** and, as long as the problem lasts, it is **shown again every minute**: the new one takes the place of the previous one, so they do not pile up. Anyone who connects during the problem sees it within a minute.
- When the system responds regularly again (and there have been no errors for at least 20 seconds) the amber alert is replaced by a **green** one for 10 seconds: **«Il problema è rientrato: il sistema è tornato regolare e puoi lavorare normalmente.»** (The problem is over: the system is back to normal and you can work as usual.)

What to do: slow down or stop for a few minutes, use the chat less and do not resend the same message several times. No technical operation is needed.

## If the connection drops

If the program loses its connection with the server or the browser has no network, the **«Connessione momentaneamente interrotta»** (Connection temporarily interrupted) window appears **full screen**, with the buttons **Riprova ora** (Try again now) and **Ricarica pagina** (Reload page). The program tries again by itself every few seconds and the window disappears as soon as the server responds. Data already entered is not lost. ## What to do if...

| No new messages arrive | Check that you are connected to the Internet; if the page has been open for a long time, reload it (F5) |

| The amber «sotto carico» alert appears | Proceed more slowly, without repeating the same sends several times; it disappears by itself |
| «Connessione momentaneamente interrotta» appears | Wait: it reconnects by itself. If it does not, **Ricarica pagina** |
| I no longer see an alert | It was one of the first: at most five can stay visible |
