> Narciso Hub, barcode readers and printing: what can be connected to the management program, how it works and what the on-screen warnings mean.

Last updated: 22 October 2026. Source: https://narciso.io/en/docs/apparecchi-collegabili/

Narciso works from the browser, but some functions use devices in the shop: the **barcode readers** and the salon's **WhatsApp** number go through the **Narciso Hub**, while printing uses the computer's printer.

## Narciso Hub

The **Narciso Hub** is a small device that you plug into the mains and the shop's network. It acts as a bridge between the salon's peripherals and Narciso:

- barcode readers connect to the Hub with a USB cable, not to the computer;
- the salon's WhatsApp number (WhatsApp Personale) goes through the Hub (see [WhatsApp (Personale and Aziendale)](https://narciso.io/en/docs/whatsapp/)).

The Hub is assigned to a location: you need **one Hub per location**. The client does not install or register it: support assigns and configures it (see [Support](https://narciso.io/en/docs/assistenza/)). Support carries out the Hub's updates remotely.

### Connecting the Hub to a new network

If you change the router or the Wi-Fi password, the Hub can no longer connect. After some time without a network the Hub creates a setup Wi-Fi network by itself, called **Narciso-Setup-** followed by four characters. To put it back on the network:

1. Connect your phone or computer to the Wi-Fi network «Narciso-Setup-…». The name and password are on the card left by support.
2. The setup page opens. If it does not open by itself, type `192.168.4.1` in the browser.
3. Choose the shop's Wi-Fi network, enter the password and press **Collega** (Connect).
4. When the «Narciso-Setup-…» network disappears, the Hub is back online.

If the card is missing or the procedure does not work, contact support.

### Hub warnings

There is no page where the salon manages the Hub. On the active location the program shows these warnings:

| Situation | Warning |
|---|---|
| The location has no Hub | «Per gestire i barcode, devi prima acquistare Narciso Hub. Contatta qui l'assistenza per maggiori info» (To manage barcodes, you must first buy Narciso Hub. Contact support here for more info). The **qui** (here) link opens WhatsApp with a message for support |
| The Hub is off or unreachable | «Il Narciso Hub risulta offline. Verifica che sia acceso e connesso alla rete.» (The Narciso Hub appears to be offline. Check that it is on and connected to the network.) |
| No reader appears to be connected to the Hub | «Il lettore barcode risulta scollegato dall'Hub. Verifica il cavo e la porta USB.» (The barcode reader appears to be disconnected from the Hub. Check the cable and the USB port.) (with two readers: «Nessun lettore barcode risulta collegato all'Hub. Verifica i cavi e le porte USB.» (No barcode reader appears to be connected to the Hub. Check the cables and the USB ports.)) |

With the Hub off or off the network, WhatsApp Personale and the readers are stopped.

## Barcode readers

Each location is set up for **two readers**, both connected to the Hub: **Barcode Scrivania** (desk reader) and **Barcode Pistola** (portable, gun-style reader). You control them from the **Lettori barcode** button in the sidebar, which opens a panel with one column for each reader. If the reader is connected, arrows appear to change the mode; otherwise the column shows **Offline** (reader assigned but unreachable) or **Scollegato** (Disconnected) (reader not assigned).

### Modes

Each reader has a mode, chosen from the panel:

| Mode | What a scan does |
|---|---|
| **Magazzino** (Stock) | Adds the code to the stock loading and unloading window of Magazzino (see [Stock in and out](https://narciso.io/en/docs/carico-e-scarico/)) |
| **Aggiungi veloce** (Quick add) | Increases the stock of the product with that code by 1, in the Hub's location |
| **Rimuovi veloce** (Quick remove) | Decreases the stock by 1. If the product is already at zero the stock does not go down |
| **Cassa** | Adds the product to the receipt in Cassa (see [Cash desk](https://narciso.io/en/docs/cassa/)) |

If the code does not match any product of the location, «Prodotto non trovato» (Product not found) appears. If the same code is linked to more than one active product of the location, the scan is rejected and changes nothing.

When a reader's mode changes, the program shows a warning such as «Pistola Barcode - Modalità attivata: Cassa» (Barcode gun - Mode activated: Cassa).

### What is needed for it to work

- Hub on and online.
- Reader connected to the Hub with the USB cable and assigned by support.
- An active location selected.
- For the **Magazzino** and **Cassa** modes, the relevant page open on the computer.

If the Hub is there but no reader is assigned, the reader window shows «Scanner non configurato – Il lettore di codici a barre non risulta configurato su questo dispositivo.» (Scanner not configured – The barcode reader does not appear to be configured on this device.).

> **Note.** A reader connected directly to the computer, without the Hub, behaves like a keyboard: it types the code into the selected field, for example a search box. It does not activate the modes described above.

## Printing

Narciso does not print on thermal printers connected to the Hub. Printing uses the **browser's print window**: any printer set up on the computer will do, or «Salva come PDF» (Save as PDF). See also [Device requirements](https://narciso.io/en/docs/requisiti-del-dispositivo/).

## Cash register and POS terminals

Connecting a physical cash register or a POS terminal is not something you do yourself: you book a meeting with a Narciso technician. Details in [Cash desk links](https://narciso.io/en/docs/collegamenti-della-cassa/) and [Payments and POS](https://narciso.io/en/docs/pagamenti-e-pos/).
