# When a link breaks on its own

> Why a channel can stop working without anyone unlinking it (password change, permissions revoked, expired keys), how to notice (amber dot, grey card, task in Segreteria) and how to link it again.

A channel keeps working as long as the provider (Meta, TikTok, the mail provider, Telegram) accepts the access you gave it. If it refuses it, for example after a **password change**, the **revocation of permissions** or an **expired key**, the channel stops working **without anyone unlinking it**. How you notice depends on the channel.

## Facebook and Instagram: the amber dot

When Meta refuses access:

1. Narciso notices when it tries to **send a message** or during the **periodic synchronisation** (not at the exact moment the access expires).
2. The account is marked as **not active**, **without deleting anything**: conversations and contacts stay.
3. On the Comunicazioni page, in real time, a **pulsing amber dot** appears on the **Collegamenti** (Links) button. When you hover over it: «Un account Social è stato disconnesso da Meta per motivi di sicurezza (es. cambio password). Procedi alla riconnessione manuale.» (A Social account has been disconnected by Meta for security reasons (e.g. password change). Proceed with the manual reconnection.)
4. The channel's card in the links window turns **grey**, and when you try to reply the disconnected-channel warning appears with **Riconnetti** (Reconnect) ([New message](https://narciso.io/en/docs/nuovo-messaggio/)).

The amber dot appears **only on the Collegamenti button of the Comunicazioni page** (not in the chat column). It appears to anyone who has the page open; if you open the page afterwards, it appears only if the account is linked to the active location ([Real-time updating and alerts](https://narciso.io/en/docs/aggiornamento-in-tempo-reale/)).

### How to link it again

1. Open **Collegamenti** (or press **Riconnetti** in the warning).
2. Click the **grey** card of Facebook or Instagram: the guided path opens directly (there is no «Ricollega» (Link again), because the channel appears unlinked) ([Linking with login on the provider's site](https://narciso.io/en/docs/percorso-guidato/)).
3. Log in and authorise again, choosing **the same page or the same profile**.
4. After «Continua» (Continue) the account becomes **active again with the new key**; **the earlier conversations and contacts are still there**.

If you link a **different** page or profile, the old one stays deactivated and the amber dot **stays on** until you link that one too (or unlink it).

## The other channels

| Channel | What happens | How you notice |
|---|---|---|
| **Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest** | Narciso **renews the access keys by itself** before they expire. If the renewal fails, the channel **switches off** | The card turns grey again and in **Segreteria** (Secretariat) the task «Ricollega [canale]: [account]» (Link [channel] again: [account]) is created, which explains what is not working and disappears by itself when the channel is active again ([Secretariat](https://narciso.io/en/docs/segreteria/)) |
| **WhatsApp Aziendale** | If Meta refuses the key (for example when downloading a client's file, or when sending), the number **switches off**. Until you link it again, clients' voice notes, photos and files are not downloaded and messages do not go out | The card turns grey again and sending shows the disconnected-channel warning. If the key is refused while downloading a client's file, the task to link again is also created in Segreteria. The amber dot may appear at the time, but it does not stay after the page is reloaded |

## Revoking permissions

Narciso does not show the expiry dates of links. If you revoke the Narciso app from the settings of your Meta account, Facebook and Instagram switch off and the card turns grey: link again as above.
