# Designer projects

> The starting window (Nuovo progetto and Riprendi lavoro), all the available formats, automatic saving, the Salva menu and how to reopen a piece of work.

## The starting window

When you open the [Designer](https://narciso.io/en/docs/designer/) from the menu, a white window of **860 × 680 points** appears in the centre, with two tabs: **Nuovo progetto** (New project) and **Riprendi lavoro** (Resume work). You cannot touch the editor until you choose.

### «Nuovo progetto» tab

Four scrolling rows of cards, one for each type, with two arrows **‹ ›** for scrolling. Each card shows a sample photo, the name, the size and the suitable social networks; if you hold the mouse over it, the photo is shown in full. The round **i** button opens a speech bubble with **Perché sceglierlo** (Why choose it) and a usage tip. One click on the card chooses the format (from the keyboard: **Tab** to move onto it, **Invio** (Enter) or **Spazio** (Space) to choose).

With a single frame, the bar for adding or moving frames does not appear. This row also contains the **Sticker** card (512 × 512 px, up to 30 canvases): see [Stickers](https://narciso.io/en/docs/sticker/).

**Print rows** (Volantino, Poster, Biglietto da visita; that is, Flyer, Poster, Business card): each has **Fronte e Retro** (Front and Back) and a 3 mm bleed. Sizes, cards and prices are in [Print formats](https://narciso.io/en/docs/formati-di-stampa/).

Once you pick a card, the window closes and the canvas is created with the name **Nuovo Progetto**. The piece of work is immediately given an identifier and a backup copy is made in the browser: pressing **F5** straight after choosing does not lose either the format or the sizes.

### «Riprendi lavoro» tab

Lists the **drafts**, that is, the pieces of work that are **not finalised**: those saved by automatic saving or with **Salva Bozza** (Save draft), including print formats. These **do not** appear: posts finished with **Salva Post** (Save post) (they are in the [Social media](https://narciso.io/en/docs/social-media/) library) and uploaded files.

- A grid of **4 columns**, most recent first. Each card shows the preview, the **title** (**Senza titolo**, Untitled, if empty) and the date followed by **• Bozza** (Draft).
- Work arrives in blocks of 20: when you scroll towards the bottom, more arrive. There is no cap on the number.
- The **Cerca tra i tuoi post...** (Search your posts...) bar searches **in the title only** (maximum 100 characters). With no results: **Nessun post trovato per "…".** (No post found for "…".) With no drafts: **Non hai ancora nessun lavoro salvato.** (You have no saved work yet.)
- If the preview is missing, a yellow box appears with the text **Immagine anteprima non disponibile** (Preview image not available) (this happens for work closed straight after starting).
- One click on a card reopens the work as it was (format, frames, sizes). If it fails: **Impossibile aprire la bozza. Controlla la connessione e riprova.** (Unable to open the draft. Check your connection and try again.)
- If loading the list fails: **Impossibile caricare i tuoi lavori.** (Unable to load your work.) with **Riprova** (Try again).
- When you hover over the preview, a **bin** appears (**Elimina definitivamente**, Delete permanently): it asks for confirmation with a browser window («Eliminare definitivamente "titolo"? L'azione non è reversibile.», Delete "title" permanently? This action cannot be undone.) and deletes the draft, previews and files from the server.

## The project name

At the top left is the name (it starts as **Nuovo Progetto**). One click turns it into a text field (maximum **80 characters**); **Invio** or a click outside confirms. If you leave it empty, it goes back to **Senza nome - gg.mm.aaaa** (Unnamed - dd.mm.yyyy). Underneath, a label shows the type: **Post singolo** (Single post), **Carosello** (Carousel) (several frames) or **Fronte/Retro** for print.

> **Note.** Changing the name does not start a save by itself: the new name is saved with the next save (a change to the canvas or a **Salva Bozza**).

## Automatic saving

The editor **saves by itself about 5 seconds after the last change**, and at most every 15 seconds it updates a small preview of the first page. It does not save while the canvas is **completely empty**: the draft is created at the first change. A **backup copy in the browser** is also made at every change; if you reload before the save reaches the server, the editor picks up the most recent copy.

The indicator in the top bar (visible from 768 points upwards):

| **Non salvato — riprova** (Not saved — try again) (red) | Saving failed: the work stays in the editor and in the browser copy, and the program **tries again by itself** after 5, 10, 20, 40 seconds and then every minute. The button makes it try again immediately |

If you try to close or reload the tab while a save is in progress or has failed, the browser asks for confirmation. A **too heavy** piece of work (over about 25 MB of data, for example because of many uploaded fonts) is not saved: see [File formats and sizes](https://narciso.io/en/docs/file-formati-e-dimensioni/).

## The Salva button

The yellow **Salva** (Save) button opens a menu with different entries depending on the type of work:

| **Salva Post** | Posts, stories, carousels | Exports the image ready for publishing and puts it in the Social library ([Exporting](https://narciso.io/en/docs/esportare/)) |
| **Stampa autonoma** (Print on your own) | Print only | Opens the browser's print window ([Print formats](https://narciso.io/en/docs/formati-di-stampa/)) |

> **Warning.** **Salva Bozza** on a post that is already finished **removes it from the Social library** and turns it back into a draft. After editing a finished post, press **Salva Post** again; **Salva Bozza** should not be used on a post that has to be published. Automatic saving alone, on the other hand, does not change the status of a finished post.

If the manual save fails, a browser window warns you with **Errore durante il salvataggio: …** (Error while saving: …): the work stays in the editor and you can try again.

## Reopening a piece of work

- **F5** during work: the address already contains the identifier, so the page reopens the same work with its name.
- **Riprendi lavoro**: as above.
- From the Social library: **Modifica** (Edit) reopens a finished post ([New post](https://narciso.io/en/docs/nuovo-post/)).
- If you closed the tab without saving, when you reopen it the editor uses the browser copy if it is more recent than the one on the server. A piece of work that never reached the server does not appear in the list.
