# Post publishing

> What happens at the set time for a scheduled post: the check every minute, how it is published on each social network, when it succeeds, when it fails (error messages and what to do) and why a post is not edited but redone.

## The publishing cycle

An automatic check runs **every minute**. It picks up the posts "to be published" whose date and time **have already arrived** and publishes them. So:

- the post goes out **within about a minute** of the chosen time, never early;
- each run takes **at most 5 posts**, oldest first: if there are more, the others go out in the following runs;
- if the system was stopped, overdue posts go out as soon as it resumes, but **only if the time passed less than 24 hours ago**. A post overdue by more than 24 hours **is not published**: it goes to error with the message «Orario di pubblicazione scaduto da oltre 24 ore: post non pubblicato. Riprogrammalo per pubblicarlo.» (Publication time expired more than 24 hours ago: post not published. Reschedule it to publish it.);
- a post that has been picked up moves to "being published" (the card keeps the label «📅 Pubblicazione pianificata» (📅 Publication scheduled)); if it stays stuck in that state for **more than 10 minutes** (for example after a restart), it goes back in the queue and is retried;
- at the end of the operation the post becomes **published** or **failed**.

## How it is published on each social network

Whether a piece of content is a video is decided from the type or from the file extension (.mp4, .mov, .webm, .m4v).

## When it succeeds

The post becomes **published**, gets its public address and the calendar updates by itself. For Instagram and Facebook, statistics and comments can then be read as in [Editorial plan](https://narciso.io/en/docs/piano-editoriale/). The address of a **story** is not that of the individual story (for Instagram it is the generic stories page).

## When it fails

The post goes to **error** and the text can be read in the small window of the red triangle ([Editorial plan](https://narciso.io/en/docs/piano-editoriale/)). The messages are Narciso's own or, when the error comes from the social network, **the social network's text** (often in English).

## After an error

A failed post **is not retried** (apart from the case of the 10 stuck minutes) and the card **does not have** «Riprova» (Try again), «Modifica» (Edit) or «Riprogramma» (Reschedule). To republish:

1. on the card of the failed post use **Condividi post** (Share post): it reschedules **text and cover** (limits in [Editorial plan](https://narciso.io/en/docs/piano-editoriale/));
2. or, searching for the content in **Nuovo Post** (New Post) ▸ **Già pubblicati** (Already published) filter, use **Ripubblica** (Republish) ([New post](https://narciso.io/en/docs/nuovo-post/));
3. then delete the failed post from the calendar (**Elimina post** (Delete post)).

The same applies to **changing the date, time or text of a post that is still scheduled**: there is no editing. You delete it and redo it.
