# Device requirements

> What you need to use Narciso: a computer or tablet with a screen of at least 13 inches in landscape, an up-to-date browser with cookies enabled, and a stable connection.

**Narciso** runs in the browser: you do not install any program and no extensions are needed. To use it you need a computer or tablet with a large screen held in landscape, an up-to-date browser and a stable internet connection. The management system cannot be used from a phone.

## Screen

### Minimum size

The program measures the device's **screen**, not the browser window, and estimates its diagonal in inches. Below **13 inches** the page «Accesso Richiesto da Desktop» (Desktop access required) appears, with no buttons: you must use a larger computer or tablet.

The estimate is worked out from the points the browser reports for the screen, divided by 96 points per inch. This means what counts is the effective resolution seen by the browser, not the physical size of the monitor.

> **Warning.** A **very high screen scale** in the Windows or macOS settings (for example 200% on a Full HD monitor) makes the browser report a smaller screen and can bring up the «Accesso Richiesto da Desktop» page even on a large monitor. In that case, lower the scale (for example to 125% or 150%) and reload the page. Browser zoom can also distort the measurement: if the page appears, set the zoom back to 100% with Ctrl 0.

Making the browser window smaller on a computer does not bring up the message.

### Orientation

If the screen is taller than it is wide, the page «Ruota il tablet» (Rotate the tablet) appears with the text «Questa applicazione è ottimizzata per l'orientamento orizzontale. Ruota il dispositivo per continuare.» (This application is optimised for landscape orientation. Rotate the device to continue.). This applies to tablets and also to a monitor turned to portrait. When you turn the device the page updates by itself, without reloading. If the rotation does not change, unlock the tablet's rotation lock from the quick settings.

The two checks never appear together: the size is checked first, then the orientation.

### Phone

The management system does not open from a phone. The public pages designed for the salon's clients do work from a phone, such as the catalogue with booking that the salon sends on WhatsApp.

### Tablet

A tablet in landscape with a large enough screen can open the management system. Keep these limits in mind:

- the help labels that appear when you hover the mouse over buttons cannot be reached by touch;
- the quick problem report, which requires sharing the screen, is normally not available on tablet browsers: use «Contatta assistenza» (Contact support) instead (see [Support](https://narciso.io/en/docs/assistenza/));
- there is no app to download for tablets: you use the browser.

## Browser

Use the latest version of one of these browsers, kept up to date:

Internet Explorer and the browsers of old phones cannot be used. The program does not warn you if the browser is too old: some parts stop working or the page stays blank.

### Settings to keep enabled

Clearing site data from the browser logs you out of the program and makes you register the device again the next time you open it.

### Incognito browsing

In an incognito or private window the program works, but when the window is closed the session and the device recognition are lost, and the security check starts again from scratch at the next login.

## Pop-up windows

Some features open a separate window. For them to work, allow pop-ups for `app.narciso.io` from the icon next to the browser's address bar, in the site settings.

If you press a connect button and nothing happens and no message appears, the most likely cause is a blocked pop-up: allow pop-ups and try again.

## Reporting a problem

«Segnala problema» (Report a problem) asks the browser which tab to share: choose the Narciso tab. If the request is cancelled, the report is not sent. More details in [Support](https://narciso.io/en/docs/assistenza/).
