# Unlinking a channel

> What really happens when you unlink a channel: the confirmation, what is deleted (contacts, messages, attachments, posts) and what stays, the case of several locations, and the differences for Instagram, Facebook and Telegram.

> **Warning.** Unlinking a channel **permanently deletes** from Narciso the contacts of that channel, their messages and the attachments. They cannot be recovered. The clients in the address book are **not** deleted: they only lose the history of that channel. Only the **Titolare** (owner) can unlink ([Linking channels](https://narciso.io/en/docs/collegare-i-canali/)).

## How to unlink

1. Open the channel's panel: one click on its card in the grid ([Linking channels](https://narciso.io/en/docs/collegare-i-canali/)). Alternatively, in the Impostazioni menu of the chat column, untick the channel under **Collegamenti**: the confirmation opens directly.
2. Press **Scollega** (red).
3. The confirmation appears with the warning icon. The text changes according to the channel:

| Channel | Title | Text |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram and Facebook, from Comunicazioni | **Scollegare?** (Unlink?) | «Stai per scollegare questo canale SOLO dai Messaggi.» (You are about to unlink this channel ONLY from Messages.) The contacts, messages and attachments of this channel will be deleted. If it also stays linked to the Piano editoriale (Editorial plan), the account is not disconnected and the scheduled posts stay intact |
| Instagram and Facebook, from Social Media | **Scollegare?** | «…SOLO dal Piano editoriale.» (…ONLY from the Piano editoriale.) The posts and schedules of this channel will be deleted; if it also stays linked to Messaggi, the account is not disconnected |
| All the other channels, from Comunicazioni | **Eliminazione Permanente** (Permanent Deletion) | «Stai per scollegare questo canale. Questa azione è irreversibile.» (You are about to unlink this channel. This action is irreversible.) All the contacts associated exclusively with this channel, the entire message history and the attachments will be permanently deleted from the servers to free up space. The records of omnichannel clients will be kept but will lose the history of this channel |
| TikTok and Pinterest, from Social Media | **Eliminazione Permanente** | «…Verranno eliminati i post e le programmazioni di questo canale dal Piano editoriale, anche quelli già programmati, con le loro interazioni e i file…» (…The posts and schedules of this channel will be deleted from the Piano editoriale, including those already scheduled, with their interactions and files…) |

4. **Annulla** (Cancel) goes back without doing anything; **Conferma Eliminazione** (Confirm Deletion) (red) goes ahead. The Esc key does not work: use the mouse.

After you confirm, neither a waiting indicator nor a success notice appears: the window returns to the grid with the card grey. If the operation fails (network, server) **no error appears** and the channel still shows as linked. With many attachments it can take a few seconds: do not click again.

## What is deleted and what stays

Unlinking applies to the **active location** and has two cases. The confirmation does not say which one you are in.

### The channel is used only by this location

This is the **final** unlinking. Narciso:

1. closes the link (see the table);
2. deletes the **contacts** of that channel with all their **messages** and **attachments** (photos, videos, voice messages, documents) and the folders left empty;
3. for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest it also deletes the **posts** of that channel in the Piano editoriale, with the interactions and files. This is not written in every confirmation: whoever uses Social Media knows that unlinking a channel also makes those posts disappear ([Editorial plan](https://narciso.io/en/docs/piano-editoriale/)).

The original messages, the page, the profile and the mailbox **stay on the provider** (Meta, Telegram, WhatsApp, your mail provider): Narciso keeps a **copy**, and that is the one that is deleted.

| Channel | What is closed |
|---|---|
| **Facebook, Instagram** | The account is deleted from Narciso, together with the access key. To see it again, link it again |
| **WhatsApp Aziendale** | The number is deactivated and the key deleted. To reactivate it, link it again |
| **WhatsApp Personale** | The number shows as not linked, the Hub receives the command to disconnect WhatsApp and the session keys are deleted. A new QR is needed to reactivate it |
| **Telegram** | The link is stopped and the account deactivated; the session is deleted by Narciso. The session is **not closed on the Telegram side**: to remove it completely it has to be closed from the phone, under active devices |
| **Email, PEC** | The mailbox is deactivated and the password deleted; servers, ports, username and sender stay. Nothing is touched at the mail provider |
| **TikTok, Pinterest** | The account is deactivated and the keys deleted |

> **Note.** Unlinking from Narciso does **not revoke** the permission given to Narciso inside Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, nor the device linked inside WhatsApp or Telegram. To remove them completely, also act from the settings of those services.

### The channel is also used by other locations

The unlinking is **partial**:

- the account **stays active for the other locations**;
- this location **stops seeing** the conversations and messages of that channel (and, for Facebook and Instagram, the posts and statistics of that account);
- the conversations that are left with **no location at all** (because they belonged only to this one) are deleted with their messages and attachments;
- **no conversation of the other locations is touched**.

When the last location also unlinks, the final case applies to the whole channel ([Multiple locations and shared channels](https://narciso.io/en/docs/canali-e-sedi/)).

## Several accounts of the same channel

If a location has two accounts of the same channel (for example two Facebook pages), **Scollega removes them all**: you cannot unlink just one.

## Telegram: «Scollega account»

In Telegram's «Account collegato» (Account linked) screen, the **Scollega account** (Unlink account) button works **without confirmation** ([Telegram](https://narciso.io/en/docs/telegram/)).

## After unlinking

- The card in the grid turns grey, with no notifications.
- **The Comunicazioni column and page do not update by themselves**: to stop seeing the conversations that have already been deleted, reload the page. In the Collegamenti menu the box can stay ticked until you reload. If you click one of those conversations, Narciso may no longer find it.
