# Discount code uses

> How the «Utilizzi» counter of the Promozioni table works: when it goes up, when it goes down, how it links to the maximum limit and where you can see which sales the discount belongs to.

Last updated: 22 October 2026. Source: https://narciso.io/en/docs/utilizzi/

The **Utilizzi** (Uses) column of the [Promotions](https://narciso.io/en/docs/promozioni/) table says **how many times a code has been used** in a recorded sale. If the promotion has a limit, the maximum also appears: «3 / 10» means three uses out of ten possible; without a limit only the number appears.

> **Note.** The **Utilizzi** tab at the top of the Promozioni page **is not this counter**: it shows the register of the clients' loyalty points movements (see [Loyalty points](https://narciso.io/en/docs/punti-fedelta/)).

## When the counter goes up

The counter goes up by **one** when a sale with that code is **recorded**:

- **Payment in the Cassa** (cash desk) in Riscuoti (Collect payment) mode, with any payment method. With payments that start from a link or from a terminal, the code is marked as used when the payment is completed.
- One sale at a time: if the same receipt has several items, the use is still **one**.

The counter does **not** go up when:

- you write or verify a code in the Cassa but do not take the payment;
- a promotion is imported or created;
- the code is shown or copied from the table.

Narciso does not record any use «by itself»: if the counter goes up, there is a sale that used that code.

## When the counter goes down

If a sale that had used the code is **cancelled**, the use it had consumed **becomes available again** and the counter goes down by one. A code with a limit therefore does not stay «used up» because of a sale that no longer exists.

## The maximum limit

- It is set in the **Limiti e Validità** (Limits and validity) step of the guided procedure and can be changed or removed when editing ([Promotions](https://narciso.io/en/docs/promozioni/)).
- When the uses equal the maximum, the code is **used up**: the Cassa answers «Questo codice ha raggiunto il limite massimo di utilizzi» (This code has reached the maximum uses limit).
- The limit is also checked at the moment the sale is recorded: the counter never exceeds the maximum, not even with two simultaneous sales ([Promotional code rules](https://narciso.io/en/docs/regole-codici-promozionali/)).
- The automatic birthday and name-day codes also have a limit of **one use per client**; it is checked only after the sale is recorded (same entry).

## Where you can see which sale the discount belongs to

The counter says how many times, not who. For an individual client, the **Sconto/Promo** (Discount/Promo) column of the [Transaction history](https://narciso.io/en/docs/storico-transazioni/) (transaction history) shows the discount of the linked sale, with the promotion or code used.

## What to do if...

| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| The number is «10 / 10» and I want to allow more uses | Select the row, **Modifica** (Edit), and in step 3 raise or remove the **Limite utilizzi massimi** (Maximum uses limit) |
| The client says they used the code but the counter did not go up | The sale may not have been recorded, or the Cassa showed «Vendita registrata, ma il codice sconto … non è stato segnato come usato» (Sale recorded, but the discount code … was not marked as used). Check the sale in the [Transaction history](https://narciso.io/en/docs/storico-transazioni/) |
| I want to reset the counter | You cannot: the number follows the sales. To start again from zero you create a new promotion |
