# Phone verification by SMS

> Confirming the phone number with a 6-digit code sent by SMS, required after nickname and password: the three screens, the messages and what to do if there are problems.

**Phone verification** is an extra protection after nickname and password: Narciso sends a 6-digit code by SMS to the number of the person logging in, and the login is completed only after entering it.

## When it is required

- It appears **after** nickname and password have been accepted. You cannot get in until it is completed.
- It must be repeated **every 30 days** for each person. If it was completed less than 30 days ago, it does not appear.
- It applies to all roles (see [Roles and permissions](https://narciso.io/en/docs/ruoli-e-permessi/)).

Which screen you see depends on the number in the profile:

The three pages only work if you arrive directly from the login. If you open them in another way (bookmark, address typed by hand, page reloaded after a long pause), «Sessione non valida» (Invalid session) appears with «Rifai il login per continuare.» (Log in again to continue.) and the **Vai al login** (Go to login) button. On every page the **Torna al login** (Back to login) link takes you back to the login, which has to be done again from the start.

## Add your number

The page has the label VERIFICA TELEFONO (PHONE VERIFICATION), the title «Aggiungi il tuo numero» and the text «Ti invieremo un codice via SMS per confermarlo.» (We will send you a code by SMS to confirm it.).

1. Choose the country from the selector on the left, which shows the flag and the prefix (Italy, +39, to start with).
   - The list has the **Cerca un paese** (Search a country) field, which accepts the country name or the prefix, with or without +. If nothing matches, «Nessun paese trovato» (No country found) appears.
   - **Invio** (Enter) in the search field chooses the first country in the filtered list; a click outside the list closes it.
   - If you press a letter while the selector is highlighted, the list opens with that letter already in the search.
2. Type the number **without the prefix** in the «Numero di telefono» (Phone number) field. The **+** key writes nothing: it opens the list of countries.
3. Press **Invia codice** (Send code) (or **Invio**). While sending, the button shows «Invio in corso…» (Sending…).

The anti-robot check on this page is invisible.

## Confirm your number

The page has the label VERIFICA TELEFONO, the title «Conferma il tuo numero» and the text «Completa le ultime 3 cifre. Ti invieremo un codice via SMS.» (Complete the last 3 digits. We will send you a code by SMS.).

The prefix and the first digits of the number on file are already written; one field is left for the last digits, numbers only. It serves to prove that the phone really is the person's. With **Invia codice** (while sending, «Invio in corso…») the SMS is sent to the full number. If the digits do not match, «Le cifre inserite non corrispondono» (The digits entered do not match) appears.

## Enter the code

The page has the label VERIFICA SMS (SMS VERIFICATION), the title «Inserisci il codice» and the text «Ti abbiamo inviato un codice a 6 cifre via SMS.» (We have sent you a 6-digit code by SMS.).

- The **Codice di verifica** (Verification code) field accepts the 6 digits; you can paste, and the browser may suggest the code received.
- **Verifica** (Verify) checks the code («Verifica in corso…» (Verifying…)). If it is right, you go into the calendar.
- **Non l'hai ricevuto? Invia di nuovo** (Didn't receive it? Send again) sends the SMS again: «Codice inviato di nuovo» (Code sent again) appears below. The new code cancels the previous one.
- The code is single-use and has a limited lifetime; attempts are limited.

## After verification

The verification date is recorded and for 30 days it is not asked for again. If the person had no number in the profile, the one just verified becomes their number; if they already had one, it stays.
