PEC (certified email)

Translated from the Italian guide. Narciso itself is in Italian, so the names of buttons, menus and fields are shown exactly as they appear on screen, with a translation in brackets where it helps.

PEC is linked like ordinary email: the same procedure, the same fields, the same error messages. Everything explained in Email also applies here, except for the differences in the table. PEC messages received and sent appear in the chat as «PEC» conversations.

Differences from email#

The typical Aruba PEC settings are SMTP smtps.pec.aruba.it port 465 with SSL and IMAP imaps.pec.aruba.it port 993.

Recognised PEC providers#

Narciso recognises the most common providers by itself, from the domain of the address: Aruba PEC (pec.aruba.it, pec.it), Legalmail/InfoCert (legalmail.it, cert.legalmail.it, pec.infocert.it), Poste (postecert.it), Register (registerpec.it), Actalis, Namirial (sicurezzapostale.it), Lombardia PEC, TIM (pec.tim.it), Libero (pec.libero.it) and others.

Warnings#

  • Own domain. If the PEC is on a domain of your own (for example [email protected]) and the provider is Aruba, Narciso may mistake it for an ordinary Aruba mailbox and try the wrong servers: the test fails and you move on to Parametri (Settings). Enter the provider's PEC servers by hand.
  • The test really sends a message to yourself. With PEC the provider may generate its own receipts.
  • Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo: the «Autenticazione» (Authentication) step also appears for PEC, but only if the domain turns out to be managed by Google, Microsoft or Yahoo (rare for a PEC) and the same limit as in Email applies.
  • Editing, checking and location: the rules of Email apply for editing with Ricollega (Link again) (if the password does not change, the connection is not retested), for the check every 30 seconds with only the last 24 hours the first time, and for locations (Multiple locations and shared channels: one PEC per location, or shared).
  • A mailbox saved without an IMAP server stays grey in the links window (Linking channels).
