Session and logging out

Last updated:

Translated from the Italian guide. Narciso itself is in Italian, so the names of buttons, menus and fields are shown exactly as they appear on screen, with a translation in brackets where it helps.

The session is the period during which a person stays connected to Narciso after entering their nickname and password (and, when required, the SMS code). While the session is valid there is no need to log in again.

Automatic renewal#

While you work, Narciso renews the session by itself: you see nothing and lose nothing. If you close the browser and reopen it while the session is still valid, you are still logged in, without typing the password again.

  • If you do not use Narciso for a long period, you have to log in again when you reopen it.
  • Periodically Narciso asks you to log in again in full, with the SMS code (see Phone verification by SMS), even if you work every day.
  • For Operatori the session lasts until the end of the current shift (see End of shift).
  • Clearing the browser data loses the session.

One session per person#

Narciso keeps only one session per person.

  • If you log in with the same nickname from a second computer, the first one is taken back to the login page at its next renewal.
  • Two people must not share the same nickname: they would log each other out.
  • If the Titolare changes a person's password or role, deactivates their access or deletes them, that person's session is closed and they have to log in again (or can no longer do so).

When you are taken back to the login page#

If the session ends while you are working, a single operation may show one of these messages:

Message Meaning
«Sessione scaduta. Credenziali modificate o logout effettuato.» (Session expired. Credentials changed or logout done.) Another login or a change to the account has closed this session. Narciso first tries automatic renewal; if that fails, it takes you to the login
«Utente non trovato o eliminato.» (User not found or deleted.) The account no longer exists
«Non hai più un turno in questa sede.» (You no longer have a shift at this location.) (Operatore) the shift has been moved or cancelled
«Sede non disponibile. Contattare l'amministratore.» (Location not available. Contact the administrator.) The location has been deactivated
«Barberia sospesa. Contattare l'amministratore per maggiori informazioni.» (Barbershop suspended. Contact the administrator for more information.) The business is suspended: you are taken to the login. In that case contact support (see Support)
«Origine della richiesta non ammessa.» (Request origin not allowed.) The request does not come from Narciso: reload the page and work from the site's normal address
«Nessun token di autenticazione fornito» (No authentication token provided) or «Token non valido o scaduto» (Invalid or expired token) Session lost: log in again

A temporary network error does not log you out: the session is retried.

How to log out#

The Esci (Log out) button (arrow icon pointing to the exit, in amber) is in the side menu, at the bottom.

  • With the menu expanded it is in the box with your name and role, next to the barcode reader icons and the settings. If you hold the mouse over it, «Esci: Salva e chiudi la tua sessione di lavoro» (Log out: Save and close your working session) appears.
  • With the menu collapsed (icons only) it is at the bottom of the column, with the tooltip «Esci».

Pressing Esci closes the session instantly, without confirmation, and takes you to the login page. It deletes the session data from the browser and tells the server you have logged out: the session is shown as closed on every other connected computer too.

Logging out from Designer#

Even when the graphic editor is open in the Designer page, Esci does not ask for confirmation: it closes the session straight away. Designer saves by itself, but about 5 seconds after the last change: before logging out, wait for the «Salvato alle …» (Saved at …) message in the editor's top bar (Designer).

Shared computers#

On a computer used by several people, always log out at the end of work and do not save the password in the browser. Closing the tab alone does not log you out: anyone opening the browser afterwards would find the session still active (see Workstation security).
